Description

Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid for a human being and it is obtained from food. It can be converted to arachidonic acid, which is a precursor of eicosanoids. Eicosanoids are hormone like compounds that have many important physiologic functions for instance in circulatory system, gastrointestinal tract and uterine. Linoleic acid is the main fatty acid in skin, and deficiency causes skin changes. Plant oils are rich in linoleic acid.
